Dental Oasis

Overview

Dental Oasis is focused on helping people get access to care, providing users with a method to book an appointment, managing their medical information, and assisting them to inquire about future dental procedures. The main objective is to help our users take initiative in their oral health, and support their goals when maintaining care to their dental hygiene.

Role

Product Design

The Challenge

Through research, there has been a decline of people going to the dentist due to barriers like finance, lack of knowledge, or scheduling issues. This situation has caused many to delay or decline any care which can lead towards an ongoing set of problems in the upcoming future such as gum disease, cardiovascular disease, or tooth decay. The priority is building features that can help people take better care of their dental health by them the tools to overcome these issues.

Goals

Dental care should have a effective communication pathway between both patient and dentist. Steps should be clear and concise so both parties are not confused to what is treated vs billed.

Will be focusing on creating new user flows, wireframes, mockups and final prototypes.

Research

User Survey: 22 participants

63.7% of our users have noted that they have visited the dentist within the year, but 54.5% needed a certain care that they could not receive during that time. Only 9.2% of this group have gotten the dental care they required.

User Interview: 5 participants

Reoccurring theme from gathered notes from the five participants. Eight categories were found when grouping ones with similar needs.

Personas

With the user interview results, two personas were created based on the distinct needs that were gathered during this session. One looking for cosmetic purposes and another for dental hygiene needs. Isabel Rivera and Olivia Davis are established to help focus on the pain points future users are going through as the design process is constructed. These personas help establish a focus to their needs and pain points so the user's perspective could be understood.

User story mapping

With the user interview results, we identified the main priority actions that took predominance which were location and booking appointment with a dentist.

Site mapping

With the gathered information, a sitemap was created in order to visualize the design user flow.

3. Billing process like viewing and making a payment

Design

Mission: Everyone should have easy access to dental care without having to jump so many hurdles before getting the treatment that they need

Attributes: safe and secure

Font: Poppins

High - Fidelity Prototype

The goal is to confirm the design choices made during the low-fidelity phase and make improvements based on feedback from initial testing, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.

Usability Test

Round 1 Test: 5 participants

There were certain elements that looked to be buttons which some users thought could be clickable however when this action wasn't achieved this would frustrate them. This would redirect and fixate their attention on this problem, and they would take longer to complete the task at hand.

Users have commented that a confirmation page after completing a task would make them feel secure. They like having a reaffirming factor that left them feeling content and satisfied.

Round 2 Test: 5 participants

Users felt like there should be an option to switch over new patient to current patients. The app should be more personable for the person using it. Overall simple and easy to use which help makes the complex health system easier to digest.

The Outcome

Users are able to book an appointment, and also manage their dental health through Dental Oasis.
